A total of 12 ancient objects have been officially restored to the Ethiopian nation following staying by a household from Germany for in excess of a century.

These treasures, first gathered in the 1920's by the German diplomat to Ethiopia a German envoy and his spouse Hedwig, were handed over on this past Wednesday to the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at the university in Addis Ababa.

This set contained crowns, protective shields and canvases, all regarded as culturally valuable in the country.

"The artefacts still represent a mark of the enduring and friendly connection between the German nation and the Ethiopian people," said Ferdinand von Weyhe, the representative to the East African country.

He said that the household's goal to restore the items was to "showcase their appeal with the people and safeguard the heritage and past tied to my father's beginning."

These items were either considered gifts or purchases, as stated by the household.

"We would like to express gratitude to the Weiss family for practically demonstrating their sincere appreciation for the nation by meticulously preserving these items and vitally guaranteeing their return to their legitimate nation," said the tourism minister.

The minister noted that the pieces would in the near future be available to the public for study and academic study, describing the action a landmark in protecting the nation's national treasures.

"Actions are ongoing to return historical artifacts that are located in the hands of collectors and entities throughout the globe," she said.

During imperial control in the African continent, thousands of traditional artefacts were taken.

This call by the continent's states for the restoration of looted artefacts has been met with a degree of positive outcomes in recent years - even if several objects are merely on temporary return.

In 2022, Germany was the pioneering state to return a selection of the renowned historical items to Nigeria in a bid to deal with its "dark colonial history."
