No major competition markets parity like the NFL: it's their core marketing message. However, after ten games in this campaign, this isn’t a league with perfect equilibrium separating contenders, pretenders, and middle-of-the-pack clubs. Instead, it's a scenario where most of the league is simply sufficient.

NFC Standings Definition

Looking at the NFC side, at least, we see clearer definition. The Rams along with the Seahawks (both at 7-2) seem like the most well-rounded squads across the league, and achieved decisive victories on Sunday. Philadelphia at 6-2 even with their challenges maintain among the most gifted lineups in the league, similar to Green Bay (five wins, two losses, one tie). Even the Lions (6-3 standing), who have been inconsistent on offense and defense and have been dealing with tension on their coaching staff, have proven they can hammer strong franchises. For all five, it's straightforward to envision a championship trajectory.

AFC Confusion

Turning to the American Football Conference, the playoff picture is thoroughly confusing. The current division frontrunners at this stage: Indianapolis, New England, Denver (each with 8-2 records) and Steelers (five wins, four losses). Read that again. Kansas City isn't there. Buffalo is missing. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. The usual contenders, featuring premier quarterback talent, possess either glaring roster weaknesses or are dealing with health issues.

Competitive Balance System

In some ways, this represents the NFL's perfect scenario. Yet observing the current division frontrunners within the conference remains somewhat odd. Areas of each team pass the championship smell test, though not comprehensively. Franchise Analysis

Indianapolis Colts

Currently, they represent football's most unexpected success and the most successful franchise across the league following seven consecutive victories. Had it not been for fumbling away a winnable game against Pittsburgh, they’d be sitting a 9-1 record with the top standing. Previously, they seemed veteran and plodding. Currently they're youthful, quick and confident. However, we must acknowledge the ease of the Patriots' matchups. They've played against the easiest slate throughout football, yet vulnerabilities remain. The signal-caller has been brought down on 35 occasions – ranking second league-wide – including particular impacts he absorbed on Sunday appeared dangerous. With continued play, those beatings accumulate.

Denver Broncos

Denver stands at 8–2 as well, and it still feels as if they’re holding their breath. This development isn't entirely shocking that the Ravens have pulled the gap to just one game, though the speed of this shift represents criticism toward Pittsburgh's fluctuating form. Considering the Ravens opened losing five of six and still look like capable of division victory is telling about the complete conference.

Established Contenders

Baltimore constitutes part of the Big Three – joined by Buffalo and Kansas City – powered by their MVP quarterbacks, who would still strike the highest anxiety for opponents if they qualified. They're the teams everyone hopes to avoid, however, both franchises cannot get out of their own way.

Buffalo Bills

Last week, the Bills were riding high following victory over Kansas City. On Sunday they suffered one of the most disappointing losses during the campaign. They didn’t just lose to the Dolphins; they looked terrible, dropping a 30-13 road game. This represented Miami's initial victory against Buffalo in several seasons.
