Citizens have gathered across the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official remembrance events until October 16th - after the end of the festive season - but events still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was broadcast on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was observed across the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' delegations met in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of negotiations started at evening in Egypt.

The official explained the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart fighting after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the discussions are "difficult and have still not achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are working hard to close the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • Post-war management of the area

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling survived the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "No location appears as home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will be secure."

"When we see everybody home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence recover," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their solidarity for the families of the hostages. Israel says 48 continue in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Activist one woman explained: "We must do every compromise required for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Research now consistently show that around the majority of Israelis prefer the conflict to conclude in return for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the site of the music event, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of aerial bombardments and explosions could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses said the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and zone areas and in the east side district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"When the dusk arrives, the anxiety appears with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, shared.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are lying together, clinging, especially my smallest child who rests his head on me all night."

"Every second we look at the news to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had taken in the remains of several people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

Another medical facility in the south region of the city said additional fatalities had been transported. An individual was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get help to the southern area, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
