Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
