The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl containing multiple personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, each with their own fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
