The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
