Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Real-time updates includes live text for Sunday's games on multiple platforms, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Also, radio commentary can be heard through select stations covering another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar , after recent discussion about two top teams as a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both lost their unbeaten records.
Striking during those contests was the number of infractions each committed. The Eagles committed them in key moments so they kind of defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns entering the final quarter against the Denver Broncos, set to play overseas this weekend.
But it was good to see that Denver quarterback Bo Nix managed to have that deficit before lead three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, to win the game by four points.
Denver have the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They rank first in goal-line defense, whereas Philadelphia are number one in scoring near the end zone, and the Broncos won that contest.
They had the Eagles' number in terms of simulated pressure. They weren't always rushing more than four pass rushers instead they might position two LBs in the 'A' gap before drop them out and send a nickel off the edge.
At the start of the season, we said during a show that Denver could be the current year's dark horses. They finished last season strongly and did a good job in continuing that momentum.
Could Denver be this year's dark horses?
Recently acquired tight end their tight end has excelled big while recent RB JK Dobbins is a player they believe in. He's currently fifth in the NFL for rushing yards (over 400) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).
I love that the coach the Broncos' leader has "RUSH!" at the top of his playcall sheet.
That shows how Denver represent a squad that wants to prioritize the run, since you can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces down the pass rush and keeps you in positive down and distances.
It's also benefited quarterback Bo Nix, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – second only to Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 back in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert possess powerful arms to pass all over, but they don't move in the same way as Nix. He has exceptional arm talent, which is different, plus he is so athletic.
His assets include his movement, being able to pass on the run, as well as using varied release points to make throws as he moves outside protection, the bootlegs. He can throw precision throws across the middle and past defenders.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he displays a lot of poise under pressure and is not bothered by extra rushers. He tries to avoid a sack whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and is very decisive.
When you constantly rush it eats up the clock and forces the defence to be in play extended periods, and if you've got a mobile QB the defense must defend the field downfield side to side. It can be draining.
The quarterback has pushed back at Payton during games at times and it seems the coach appreciates that fire, that he's such a competitor. I think it's fun for the coach to coach a rookie QB who's kind of like moldable clay. He can truly develop him how he desires to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and now passed a legend in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. In my opinion the success the Broncos are having offensively is largely due to his leadership, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the pairing with Nix helps make him what he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy in your ear, to assist you during some of the tougher situations and boost confidence.
I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But is the team good enough to go against an elite team at full strength? Since that was not championship-level play from Philadelphia in their last game.
Right now, it's unlikely the Broncos are incredible. They're performing better than most, which is a solid position to hold the AFC West. All they need is to continue this trajectory.
They excel at embracing their strength, that is running the ball, and that's precisely what they should do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad yet to win any game.
Since the league started recording takeaways decades ago, the Jets are the first team to be without any turnovers through five games, which is kind of shocking considering that the head coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.
The Chiefs' QB says Kansas City are off to a poor start following Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos face a manageable slate until their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders prior to the Chiefs.
Looking at their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 and the Broncos are even with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge at leading the West.
It depends on which form Kansas City shows up they face because the Broncos {beat|def
